Observation: In the desire of the Romanian authorities to obtain a yellower colour, it seems that the coins of 12 1/2 lei would have gold 90%, silver 8.5% and copper 1.5%.
Obverse: In center, rowned heraldic eagle holding cross in its beak, sword and sceptre in its talons, bearing banner with the sentence "PRIN STATORNICIE LA ISBINDA", meaning THROUGH FAITHFULNESS TO VICTORY and denomination "12 1/2 LEI"; on the outer ring, close to the edge, a pearly circle.
Reverse: In center, CAROL I bust wearing military clothes and orders facing left and inscription "CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI·1866·1906" meaning KING OF ROMANIA; on the outer ring, close to the edge, a pearly circle. Below the left shoulder lies A. MICHAUX, the engraver's name.
