Scotland uses the Pound Sterling (GBP) as its official currency, the same as the rest of the United Kingdom. Unlike England, however, certain Scottish banks issue their own banknotes in pounds sterling, which are fully guaranteed and accepted throughout the UK.
1 Pound Sterling is divided into 100 pence. The word “penny/pence” comes from Old German “pfennig” and referred to a small-value coin, equivalent to a minor denomination.
