The Jersey Pound (JEP) is the official currency of the island, issued by local authorities but pegged at parity (1:1) with the British Pound Sterling (GBP). The term “pound” comes from the Latin “libra,” a unit of weight in Ancient Rome, while “sterling” derives from Old English “steorra” (star), from the star stamped on the first Norman coins.
