The Forint (HUF) is Hungary’s national currency, introduced in 1946 after the hyperinflation of the pengő. The name “forint” comes from the “fiorino d’oro,” a gold coin first minted in Florence (Firenze) in 1252, which inspired several European currencies.
1 forint is divided into 100 filler. The term “filler” derives from the German “vierer,” referring to a small low-value coin. Today, the filler subdivision is no longer in circulation.
