Montenegro has used the euro (EUR) since 2002, even though it is not part of the Eurozone and has no formal monetary agreement with the European Union. Prior to that, Montenegro used the German Mark (DEM), which circulated as legal tender from 1999 until the switch to the euro.
1 euro is divided into 100 cents, a term derived from the Latin “centum,” meaning “hundred.”
